Town of Spencer plans May 1 community events

The Town of Spencer and other partners are excited to announce the Town's annual mulch give-away for Town residents and outdoor music at Library Park are both planned for Saturday, May 1. In the morning, Public Works staff will make free mulch available to Town residents. Pick up will be available at the Public Works Facility on Sowers Ferry Road, or for $10 it can be delivered to your property. First come, first-served. Call 704-633-2231#10 for more information.

Starting at 2:00 p.m. come to a safe, socially-distanced event at Library Park (300 Fourth Street), featuring live music, magic, food trucks, and more! The annual May event at the Library Park gazebo has become a tradition and in 2021 will "Celebrate the Soul of America!" Artists include R&B/Hip-Hop/Gospel artist Virtuous, bluegrass from One Fret Over, and local magic and comedy artist Glen Yost. Popular local food trucks from The Hotdog Shack and Pelicans Snoballs of Salisbury will be on site for the public to enjoy throughout the event. Read the full article for details.

Volunteers needed for Litter Sweep, April 10-24

SPENCER – The Town of Spencer is organizing volunteer groups to help with litter cleanup efforts during NCDOT's Spring Litter Sweep, taking place April 10-24.​ ​​​Traditionally scheduled for the last two weeks of April and September, Litter Sweep is the N.C. Department of Transportation’s biannual statewide roadside litter removal initiative. Residents throughout the state participate in local efforts to help clean up North Carolina's roadways. Town staff have identified several street segments ideal for volunteer assistance. Places of worship, civic groups, families, or others working in small groups are encouraged to contact Town Clerk Stacy Craven to sign up and arrange for free cleanup supplies. Town of Spencer to receive $750,000 CDBG grant for home repairs

Town of Spencer officials received good news to kick off Thanksgiving weekend, which will impact the community for years to come. Tuesday evening, NC Department of Commerce Rural Economic Development Division notified Mayor Jonathan Williams of the Town’s award of $750,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for its Neighborhood Revitalization Program. Funds may be spent on rehabilitation, acquisition, emergency repairs or other eligible housing activities. Town staff will receive further guidance on the award in the weeks to come, and then Town and Salisbury CDC staff will begin work to accept the grant and identify potential recipients.
